Archbishop of Canterbury enthroned

The new Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, will be enthroned today in Canterbury Cathedral, England in front of 2,000 people and a BBC television and radio audience of many more.

Church leaders from all over the world will attend, along with representatives of Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist faiths, plus Prince Charles and the British Prime Minister. So, no pressure there.

Although the Archbishop of Canterbury holds no authority in the Anglican Church of Australia, he (or she) does play an important symbolic unifying role and often acts as spokesperson on international church matters.

Our prayers are with Justin Welby and his family today.
