New bishop appointed to The Murray

A new bishop has been appointed to the Diocese of the Murray.

Bishop John Ford is currently serving as Bishop of Plymouth in the United Kingdom. He and his wife, Bridget, will move to South Australia later this year. Bishop Ford is a member of the Mission Society of St Wilfred and St Hilda.

The Diocese of The Murray was created from the Diocese of Adelaide in 1970 and covers the South East region of South Australia, the Fleurieu Peninsula, Riverland, Adelaide Hills, Murraylands and the southern suburbs of Adelaide. The Diocese takes its name from the river.

You can see a map here showing the Diocesan boundaries.

Bishop John will be installed as Bishop of The Murray in Murray Bridge on Friday 6 December 2013 and his first celebration of the Holy
Eucharist for the diocese will take place on Saturday 7 December 2013.

We rejoice with our sisters and brothers of The Murray that their prayers for a “shepherd after God’s own heart” have been answered.
