Ash Wednesday - 5 March 2014

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the 40 days leading up to Easter.

Lent is a fairly solemn season in the church’s year, and Ash Wednesday certainly starts us off well. The themes are repentance, humility and mortality. We will be marked with ashes to remind us that we ‘are but dust’.

But we don’t indulge in gloom for gloom’s sake. By recognising and honestly acknowledging our faults, we can make a real effort to set them aside in favour of living a more loving and generous life.

Lent is a time to examine our lives and re-align ourselves with God and God's plans for us.

For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)

Mass will be held twice on Ash Wednesday and you are welcome to join us on either ocassion. The choir will be singing traditional chants and anthems in the evening.
