Palm Sunday is the first day of Holy Week – the most sacred time of the Christian year. On Palm Sunday we remember Jesus entering Jerusalem in triumph as a crowd shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord—the King of Israel!”
The crowd that welcomed and went with Jesus into the city waved palm branches and on Palm Sunday we do the same.
We begin the day with a service at 9am in the church building that includes a Godly Play segment especially for children.
At 10.30am St Mary Magdalene's joins with other Adelaide city churches for a Blessing of Palms in the grounds of St Francis Xavier’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, before carrying carry palm fronds or crosses in public procession back to our building for Solemn Mass at 10.50am.
At 2pm there is a Walk for Justice for Refugees - another opportunity to take part in a public procession. This event is endorsed by all the major churches and various community groups.
