General Synod 2014 meeting in Adelaide this week (29 June - 4 July)

General Synod is like an annual general meeting of the national church, except that we hold it every three/four years. Each diocese elects some ordained and non-ordained members to attend, plus various bishops.

General Synod is a bigger deal than the annual diocesan meetings. Most of the delegates will have to travel interstate to attend, it takes a whole week rather than a weekend and delegates get to mingle with (we hope) the best and brightest of our membership.

This year, General Synod is meeting in Adelaide at St Peter’s College, Hackney.
Delegates will discuss and vote on matters of church business in formal business sessions, interspersed with the necessary breaks for refreshment. Most days will start at 7.30am and run to 9pm.

A prayer for synod

Almighty and everliving God,
give wisdom and understanding
to the members of the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Australia.
Teach them in all things to seek first your honour and glory.
May they perceive what is right
have courage to pursue it
and grace to accomplish it,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
