African Bible translated...by an African

You can read this good story here.
It is an interesting story about the changing nature of the Church. This is the work of a Kenyan scholar Dr John Mbiti , himself a skilled Biblical scholar, translating not from the English ( in which most African Anglicans would have first received the Bible) but from the Greek.

Translating from the original is a very important cross-cultural principle, and represents the deepening maturity of the Anglican Communion, indeed the Western Church in general, which does not see Africans, or Asians or Pacific islanders....or indeed Australian Aboriginal people as derivative of Western culture.
