Epiphany 2015

Epiphany (ee-PIFF-uh-nee) is an important church celebration that comes immediately after the twelve days of Christmas. This year we will commemorate Epiphany on Sunday 4 January 2015.

At Epiphany we remember and celebrate the arrival of the wise men to visit Jesus, who was by that time about about two years old.

We usually talk about there being three wise men, but in fact, the bible does not mention how many men arrived at the house in Bethlehem. It just mentions three gifts -  gold, frankincense and myrrh - and from this has come the tradition that there were three men. But perhaps there were two, or ten or twenty.

Then, as now, the world needs wisdom. Epiphany is a good time to celebrate the wise women and men in our communities, our churches and our homes.
