'Stir Up' Sunday 2016 - pause and reflect

Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people; that they, plenteously bringing forth the fruit of good works, may of thee be plenteously rewarded; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

This is the prayer (Collect) for yesterday - the day commemorated as Christ the King, The Reign of Christ or 'Stir Up' Sunday.

Whatever it is called, the day marks the end of the Church's year. Next Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent, is our New Year's Day.

So now, at the end of our church year, let's pause for a moment and consider what we have done in 2016:
  • How did we go as baptised members of the Church and active members of the community?
  • What would we like to do better next year?
  • When God stirs up the will of the faithful people, what fruit of good works do we bring forth?
